"The Immigration Minister, Kevin Andrews, needs to go and do a work experience with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, so he can learn that the falsehoods he peddles about the Status of Refugees, who arrive by boat to Australia's shores, is a fabrication of Australian politicians only, and only an invention of the Prime Minister John Howard and his 'cult followers'," WA Rights group Project SafeCom said this morning, in response to comments made to the ABC by him.

"The Immigration Minister is more blatant than any of his predecessors in the Immigration portfolio in his vilification of 'unannounced boat arrivals', and he keeps repeating the falsehood that it is 'illegal' to enter Australian territories without a prior appointment, or to enter Australian waters using people smugglers."

"While any Australian print journalist or reporter gets consistently slapped around the ears by the Australian Press Council if this terminology is used and a complaint is made against the reporter or the media outlet, the Minister keeps blatantly peddling his falsehoods."

"In terms of his attitude to unannounced boat arrivals, the Minister disgraces his own portfolio, he undermines the rights and the dignity of asylum seekers, and he diminishes the name of Australia as a signatory to the UN Convention."
