"The Australian Labor Party's nexus with Trade and Labour Unions may well have created the ALP's social justice for underdogs platform in its early days, but under Gillard - more than under any other Labor leader - the ALP's social democratic platform as it should have applied to asylum seeker policies has been well and truly murdered on the altar of Gillard's hardline greed for power, and the hardline greed for power by the right-wing party chiefs in Sussex Street," WA Human Rights group Project SafeCom said this morning.

"Today's passing of the ALP's asylum seeker laws, clearly constructed on a realist politics platform as unambiguously stated by Houston's Expert panel, are therefore also a gigantic monstrosity announcing the death throes for the Labor Party as we know it, now that it has fully abandoned the universality of government responsibility and social justice outreach to those seen as powerless by the political party. Not a single ALP member can now truly argue a defence for Social Democratic Labor as opposed to Realist Conservative political groupings," spokesman Jack H Smit said.

"Yesterday I was informed that some Australians had just cancelled their membership of the ALP - and this came as no surprise. Gillard Labor has resorted to implementing a political platform that is anathema to the Australian Labor Party. Julia Gillard is the woman at the helm of the ALP that will lead Labor's traditional positioning to its irrecoverable death."
